A Letter from Management
My words pale in comparison to the articulate imagery in Braddigan’s notes to you, but in light of being in Nicaragua March 1-12 with Braddigan, Reinaldo and Tiago, I am compelled to share a little bit about the experience. I have lived, much as you may have lived, vicariously through Braddigan’s stories about Nicaragua for the past year. In March, I was fortunate to walk the roads and paths, learn the place and get to know the people for myself. It has made me realize that perhaps we can do a better job opening the door to those vibrant communities than we have done, and in moving forward we will utilize all the technology at our disposal to do so. We walked, talked, worked, danced and celebrated with the people of La Chureca—the city trash dump outside of Managua, Nicaragua. Despite what we view as grim surroundings (mountains of partially burning trash, polluted water, and makeshift homes), they are a people with a true sense of community, of dignity and pride, and of joy—their smiles jump barriers of language and culture and speak infinitely louder than words. Does that mean they are without need of help or are content to live in trash? Certainly not, but it does make them just as human as you or I, and equally deserving of love and respect. We are thankful for your emails of interest and encouragement, to the individuals and organizations who have supported us, and we are grateful for the opportunity to be a bridge to our brothers and sisters around the world. With love and respect,
